Obituary for Joanne Wallcraft:
Jo passed away the morning of August 28, 2025 after a battle with glioblastoma on Salt Spring Island.
Jo has studied everything from interior design to common law. She also took an interest in natural health, sound healing, gold panning, the meta-physics of rocks, djembe playing, weaving, and she was a master of traditional embroidery. Jo also enjoyed wild crafting, gardening, painting faerie doors and many other things.
Jo was known as a very positive person and remained a shining light through the worst of her illness, plus every day before. Jo was also a warrior when it came to human rights, common law and personal freedoms; she kept her warrior’s spirit throughout her battle with brain cancer. Her strong will emboldened her with campaigns to help people recover from addictions as well as suicide prevention.
Jo was recently married to her long term love, Son Mandelin. Son was a rock-solid support to Jo & her friends throughout the illness, staying lovingly by her side. Joanne is survived by her husband Son, her parents, her two step daughters and her many friends in the community.
Jo’s memorial will be held this Sunday September 28, 2025, in Centennial Park, Ganges BC. It will be a pot-luck, please bring a dish to share, if you like.
