Tribute

Jan Hilton passed away peacefully on June 13th, 2026, at the Lady Minto Extended Care facility.
Jan was born on January 19th, 1950, in Hollywood, California, the daughter of John and Beryl Hilton.
Jan is survived by her husband, Martin Milner; her two sons Adam Milner (Julia) and Devin Milner (Karla); and her four granddaughters, August, Franky, Remi, and Lilian.
Jan’s family moved to Mill Bay on Vancouver Island where she grew up. Jan graduated from Cowichan High School then moved to California, where she enrolled at the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco and began her career in jewelry manufacturing and repair in Sonoma, California. Jan’s artistic nature was evident in her jewelry designs and numerous paintings
In 1986 Jan moved to Salt Spring Island with her family where she established a small farm while rising to the position of acting postmistress at the Ganges Post Office.
Jan was happiest in her garden and caring for the many animals she raised. She was particularly fond of her horses and donkeys. In the late 1970s, Jan’s adventurous spirit led her to trek the Pacific Crest Trail from California to BC accompanied by two donkeys.
Jan was an avid gardener (worked tirelessly from dawn to dusk) and a chicken expert; she sold eggs, flowers, and produce at her farm stand.
Jan was also an active member of the Farmers Institute and the Canadian Horse Association.
Jan liked to travel, especially to France and Portugal.
Jan was a very loving wife, mother, and true friend to many she will be deeply missed.
